information

I studied Botany at Glasgow University and obtained a PhD in Plant Physiology. After the birth of my fourth child I attended non-diploma classes at Glasgow School of Art for three years.

Commissions include Royalty, politicians, and academics as well as private individuals both in the UK and abroad.

my method

Originally I worked solely from life but when I was commissioned to paint the Prime Minister, Mrs Thatcher in 1990, I knew that I would only be allowed two sittings. So I took a camcorder to No. 10 Downing Street and used the film I made of Mrs Thatcher, posed as for a proper sitting, to paint her portrait. Nowadays many of those I paint are very busy, high profile people and so I have continued to use this method to lessen the time my sitters need to commit to a portrait.
